By SAMANTHA CRITCHELL, Associated Press Writer
NEW YORK - Just like J.Lo and Ben, the romance is over for Barbie and Ken. After 43 years as one of the world's prettiest pairs, the perfect plastic couple is breaking up. The couple's "business manager," Russell Arons, vice president of marketing at Mattel, said that Barbie and Ken "feel it's time to spend some quality time — apart."

Next on Geraldo -- Ken gets a new look from the Fab 5 in "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."

Now, we may be treating Ken a little harshly. I mean, if Barbie isn't a trophy wife, who is? Let's just wish Ken the best with his new actress/model/whatevers Bambi and Jayd. And aren't they going to be a little snug in his MGB?

They aren't real, folks, which I think was jjmoney's point.

This yarn was run as a straight story just about everywhere I saw it - and on the news pages. Which irritates me no end. If it's in the newspaper it ought to be true my dad used to say. Mattel can buy ads if it wishes to amuse us.
[ February 14, 2004: Message edited by: Paul Wiggins ]

The Star adds today, in news space, that the latest additions to the Barbie family are grandparents for her pal Midge. Won't somebody write this an obit?

I am about to place a Barbie spread.
If the Cold War were still going, I could have put all those years of academic study to a better use than this.
I am just going outside and may be some time
source: see first graf of ths piece on Oates
[ June 14, 2004: Message edited by: Paul Wiggins ]
