Not necessarily... nowhere does it specify that the photo must be of the applicant.

Huh. When I was a "hungry" young reporter some 35 years ago, I used to thumb through the classifieds in E and P from time to time. Some ads would ask that a photo be enclosed.

It seemed that a lot of Southern papers would ask for a photo. I always assumed it was a method of racial sorting, sorry to say. I hope I was wrong.

I'd be surprised if you weren't right.

At least some of the colleges I applied to in the 1970s wanted a photo.

The college I went to in 1989 wanted a photo.

Ditto the institute I applied for in 1984. Needless to say, I was rejected.

Routine here.

You also need to list your education from elementary school onward.

I won't be applying, but it would be fun to send a snapshot of my parents' puppy or the water tower across the street from my apartment.

Our paper "didn't hire blacks" I think as late as the 1970s. I just learned that a few months ago when a nationally syndicated columnist who had wanted to start out here mentioned it.

I may be wrong, but I think it is illegal to ask for pix in Canada.
While they obviously screen for colour, they also separate Pat from Pat on the sex agenda too.

It may be that they're looking for an unattractive candidate.

My HR department would never ask for a photo, and they would forbid us to, as well--too easy to accuse us of discrimination.

From journalismjobs.com:

Quote:
The Sentinel & Enterprise, an award-winning daily newspaper in North Central Massachusetts, has an immediate opening for a general assignment reporter to focus on breaking news. Must have a year of daily or weekly experience and the ability to represent the paper in public.

The news editor, working second shift, does not have to be able to represent the paper.

I'm surprised they aren't asking the reporters to supply photos with their applications.
