The White Sox clinched the pennant a little over an hour ago, and I've already seen more "Say It's So" heds than I can count.

Not only unoriginal, it doesn't fit. "Say it ain't so, Joe" was, in folklore, in reference to the announcement that the eight Black Sox were guilty of throwing the Series. It had nothing to do with winning a pennant.

But you knew that.

For the first time in my lifetime, a World Series will be played in Chicago. And I'm not much younger than Al Lopez.

Sox are go-go-going to Series (Chicago Sun-Times)

***No. These are not the Go-Go Sox. They are ancient history.***

While Nellie Fox, Ted Kluszewski and Luis Aparicio put an offensive charge into the '59 team, the current Sox have been doing it with pitching from Jose Contreras, Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland and Freddy Garcia.

For people like you, JJ, and other actual fans of the White Sox, I'm genuinely happy. There were a couple of true fans in the newsroom last night, and seeing their reactions was cool. In fact, I was looking forward to a St. Louis/Chicago World Series. But as far as the networks go, could we maybe, one year, just come to a concensus and let all the "cursed" teams have their wins and get it over with? I mean, who's left, the Cubs and the Astros? Anyone else? What will baseball do if there's no curses to talk about during the playoffs? It's obviously not enough for the game to get by on the excellent play we've seen so far.

Baseball will have to develop new curses. San Diego and Seattle should get busy.

Expansion-era teams cannot be "cursed." They can only stink.

So the Astros can't claim to be cursed.

That's right. And I'm guessing that in less than two weeks, they won't have any reason to claim to be.

Besides, San Diego's been to the Series. You remember; it was the year temperatures in hell dropped below 32 degrees F.

Their uniforms alone should've disqualified them.

San Diego has been to the Series twice. 1984 and 1998. Of course, they won a grand total of one game in those two Series.
