DUBAI.- AFP The United States
will play their first ever official
one-day cricket
internationals in
September after winning
the Six Nations Challenge today.
The Americans beat
Scotland by five wickets
and made sure of their
place at the ICC Champions
Trophy in England later
this year courtesy of a
better run rate compared to
the Scots.
*Brush up on you knowledge, comrades*

Does anyone know whether this story is true? (I know next to nothing about cricket -- yet):
During a visit to England, Babe Ruth supposedly hit a cricket ball farther than anyone had ever seen one fly.
A variation has him cracking the bat (correct word?), something that isn't supposed to happen (true?).

Maybe we need a separate cricket thread.

OK, I'll get on the bandwagon for Team USA. But how exactly do I "brush up on my knowledge" in time? September is only six months away, and I don't know a wicket from a widget.

I'll work on a short piece explaining what the items on the scoreboard mean and post it on a personal web site.

I couldn't help but notice that it contains a half-dozen quotes and not one "said." Obviously, the author was not a regular visitor to TCE.

Obviously, a lot of things were different then.
