The phrase "at the mid to upper end" (referring to housing prices) appears in a quote. I don't think it should be hyphenated, but there is a disagreement here. I'd welcome second opinions.

The problem is one of word choice. The existing sentence, with or without a hyphen, seems to specify that part of the full price range that falls between the middle end and the upper end. Since there is no such thing as a middle end, I would suggest re-wording it to: "at the mid-level to the upper end" (or something like that).

No hyphens, but the quote makes no sense anyway. I'd paraphrase. Is this person talking about the entire upper half of the range or what? There is no "mid end."<p>... I see Larry beat me at the draw.<p>[ April 08, 2004: Message edited by: SeaRaven ]</p>

Let's assume we want to keep the quote, even though it's not flawless English. Do we need hyphens?
