He was all the rage before his rage consumed him, before his ornery back left him crankier, before his Howard Hughes aloofness turned him positively Garbo.<p>Selena Roberts in the NY Times Red Sox whine-fest..

THEY were the hallowed host body of Boston's demons, and yet the Yankees were humiliated and vanquished by a Red Sox crew that takes the field as a cross between Tom Hanks in "Cast Away" and the goofs of "Gilligan's Island."

Yeah, I read that one, too - but Garbo and Hughes put you firmly in the Forties. At least Gilligan is 60's. Anybody out there have the same reaction as me? As far as I can tell, virtually everything that happens in life has already prefigured either in Shakespeare or in one of the great John Mortimer 'Rumpole' stories; in this case, 'Rumpole and the Bubble Reputation' wherein Rumpole defends the sleazy editor of The Daily Beacon in a libel action...
