Good lord, I actually just saw "housewife" in a Hartford Courant story.

I had an argument with a local columnist two years ago when he insisted on referring to female college students as "co-eds." I suggested that if he really wanted to use such an ancient term, he should apply it to male students, since women are now the majority of undergraduates in the United States.

Heh. I was cranking out obits at my first newspaper job when I spotted what I thought was my first big scoop. A large number of the forms from the local funeral homes had "Homemaker" listed for "Last job held."
