Can anybody tell me what's going on with the Wall Street Journal masthead? It reads<p>The Wall Street Journal.

The Kansas City Star likes to stick a period on it in advertising. I always found it annoying. But they put periods on the other sentences, too.

For your answer, look to the flags!<p>Image<p>The New York Times also had a period in the nameplate until 1967. Of course, they used to hyphenate New-York, too.
