WASHINGTON — The White House said Monday that acting CIA Director John McLaughlin was expressing his personal opinion, and not necessarily the view of the administration, when he said there is no need for a new national intelligence chief.
Without commenting on establishing an intelligence chief, President Bush said, ‘‘Some of the reforms are necessary: More human intelligence, better ability to listen or to see things, and better coordination amongst the variety of intelligence-gathering services.’’<p>That's all the new information right there. Unfortunately, this story drags on for 22 inches, incorporating 8 to 9 grafs verbatim from the story the day before.<p>Sometimes, you just don't have a story. One of those times is when the president's response to a topic is "That's not necessarily my opinion." Thanks, because I was unsure, since the current head of the CIA was the one who said it.
