I don't look at Newsweek very often, and here's why:
Image

One wonders why this merits a cover story about two years after the iPod went on the market.

Not everyone is talking about these products. So far it's a bunch of hype for an overpriced item neither understand fully nor desire.
[ July 18, 2004: Message edited by: Paul Wiggins ]

This certainly doesn't belong on the cover of Newsday, or any general news publication. It would be more suitable for the cover of MacWorld magazine. Readers of that publication never tire of seeing Steve Jobs. Of course, selling 860,000 iPods in one quarter isn't hype. While I wouldn't call the product "insanely great," the iPod is popular, selling fast and delivering on Apple's promises.
I'm surprised that BBC has resorted selling ads disguised as news reports. Sony's newest Betamax certainly isn't what everyone is really talking about. Instead of reporting Sony's 20GB player as costing $99 less than the 40GB iPod, wouldn't it make more sense to report it as costing $30 more than the 20GB iPod? Then again, why report it all? I mean, who cares about a device in the portable-MP3-player market that isn't compatible with MP3s?

From Apple's website: " . . . iTunes can import music from Windows Media Player, MusicMatch and any other app that uses MP3, AAC or WMA (unprotected)."
And: "You can import music in a variety of formats (such as MP3 or AAC) and at whatever quality level you’d prefer."

He was referring to the Sony product, not the iPod.

What does "IPod therefore I am" mean?
It's empty wordplay. A dictum without a meaning.

iPuke, therefore iAm.
The whole f*ckin story is empty. What's a good headline writer to do? At least it's catchy.
