It's that time of year. How do you all handle "festivalgoer."<p>My dictionary lists "partygoer" but is silent about those festive festival folk. Any thoughts?

Our style for almost all combining forms, goer included, is solid, with some exceptions. Ugliness, unfortunately, does not always count as an exception.

I would agree with rendering all "-goer" words solid, but I would use only the more common ones: churchgoer, partygoer, beachgoer, etc. "Festivalgoer" is a bit too out there.

This may sound stupid, but if the story is about a festival, do you actually need to call the people mentioned in it festivalgoers? Why not just call them people? <p>Reminds me of the local news spoof on Mr. Show where three youths and their companions get lost in the woods. And it's uncertain whether they're lost together, whether the youths and companions are lost seperately, or whether each youth is lost with his or her companion.<p>Guess you have to see it ...<p>I'm a horrible copy editor.
