Or print just one copy a day and sell it for a lot of money to the Koch brothers. Whatever works.

The Boston Globe may be on its way out of The New York Times Co.’s fold, but the Globe’s strategy to stabilize circulation revenue is still borrowing from the parent company’s playbook.

Despite plunging newspaper sales volume during the past five years, the Globe’s management has kept circulation revenue stable. The Globe (and its sister paper, the Telegram & Gazette) reported $154 million in circulation revenue in 2008. Remarkably, that figure stood at $155 million in 2012.

Like The New York Times, Globe publisher Chris Mayer and his team pulled this off at a time of dwindling sales volume by increasing the costs for the loyal readers who remained. There was a price hike in 2009, and another in 2012.

And now, there’s another one coming in 2013.
