Post subject:  The new O-word

Unlike the ombudsman, who was supposedly independent and was supposed to critique publicly the paper's performance[*], the new reader's rep at the Washington Post will "serve as an advocate for readers, responding to their questions and concerns," which is not the same thing. There's an assistant rep, too.

[*] And who was nice enough, in his farewell piece, to thank by name the copy editors "who reviewed my words and made them clearer every time."

I met "Doug" Feaver at the Post several years ago, when he was executive editor of the website. "The website doesn't need copy editors," he told me, ending our brief conversation.
