A member of the US military in Japan has confessed to killing a cabbie. The media have been publishing a litany of offenses by US military members. A curious one is the case of a
retracted allegation:

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a U.S. Marine in February on the southern island of Okinawa, sparking large protests. Japanese prosecutors dropped charges against the Marine after the girl withdrew her complaint; the U.S. military is still investigating. (AP)
Because of the retraction, no rape was ever established, and yet these two news sources are treating it as if there had been a rape.
