{JOURNALIST Jack Marx was sacked by email yesterday over an entry in his Fairfax blog, The Daily Truth, about Kevin Rudd.

"Kevin would have smelled her -- the silky perfume, the hint of sweat, the musky other," Marx wrote in the satirical piece about Rudd's visit to a New York strip club. "Perhaps, out of sheer drunken instinct, he'd have reached up to touch her finger shaking in front of his eyes, firmly, but seductively."

The blog was posted by Marx at 11am directly to the site and was pulled down by Fairfax editors about 30 minutes later.

He told The Australian he was shocked to receive an email from Fairfax digital editor Mike Van Niekerk which said his contract had been terminated immediately. Mr Van Niekerk defended the decision last night, saying: "Jack Marx is a brilliant writer but this was just the latest in a long line of indiscretions".

Sucked, big time. Jack should not have been fired for that. The Oz carried a column the next day along the same lines (although less explicit).
And a friend who's a crim lawyer in San Francisco recently sent me some stats on the illicit doings of the US congress. I wonder what would come up if a similar check was done of Oz parliamentarians...
