Doing the rounds is this one relevant to tonight:

Two boys in Sydney are playing football when one of the boys is attacked by a vicious Rottweiler. Thinking quickly, the other boy rips a board off the nearby fence, wedges it down the dog's collar, and twists, breaking the dog's neck.

A Sydney Morning Herald reporter hears about the incident and rushes over to interview the boy.

"Young Swans Fan Saves Friend From Vicious Animal," he starts writing in his notebook. "But I'm not , I'm a Lions fan," the little hero replies.

"Sorry, since we are in Sydney I just assumed you were," says the reporter, and he starts again.

"Waratahs Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Attack,"! He jots in his notebook. "I'm not a Waratahs fan either," the boy responds.

The reporter starts again, "Blues supporter risks life in heroic rescue".

"But I'm not a Blues fan either" says the boy.

"I assumed everyone in Sydney was either for the Swans, Waratah's or the Blue's. What team do you cheer for?" the reporter asks.

"I'm a Maroons fan," the boy says.

The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes, "Little Redneck Cane Toad Bastard Kills Beloved Family Pet."

You know, I almost feel like Paul's joke is funnier NOT knowing who the Maroons are. It allows me to imagine all sorts of wonderful things.

I'm not sure a Kiwi should be telling Queensland jokes...

What means "State of Origin?" Is that a nickname for Queensland itself or for a team?

Years ago NSW would always beat Queensland at rugby league. To spice things up State of Origin teams are based on where players had their first matches. This situation often sees players from the same club lining up. Thus the marketing slogan State versus State, Mate versus Mate. There are three Origin games a year.
