Interesting interview on ESPN.com with Cleveland pitcher Paul Byrd, who has written a book documenting his struggles with sports and spirituality. It sounds like it's not the usual Jesus-gave-me-a-great-arm story. He doesn't presume to have all the answers, nor does he give advice. He talks frankly about his past addiction to pornography, his occasional wishes that teammates would fail so he would have better opportunities and his temptation to take steroids, among other topics. I liked this answer to a question about whether Jesus helped deliver Game 4 of the ALDS for him when he started that game vs. the Yankees and got away with five wobbly innings and a lead: Quote: "I've been on a team where a guy shows no passion, and he says, "God meant for me to give up that home run." I'm like, "What does that mean? God didn't hang the slider, you hung the slider." That's not going to go over well with teammates. You're not going to turn anybody over to Christ with that attitude. I think if Christ goes into second base to break up a double play, he'll do it cleanly ... but he'll try to knock the guy into left field."
