Well, after C.C. Sabathia's bad ALDS start and this bad Game 1 ALCS start, look for sports columnists to generate plenty of cheap-shot fodder if Sabathia edges out Beckett in the Cy Young voting. (I would have voted for Sabathia based on regular-season performance; the two had fairly similar prorated numbers, but I say prorated because Sabathia pitched more than 40 more innings than Beckett.)

But it brings up an interesting question: Should postseason performances factor into award voting? If Sabathia wins, a good many people are going to feel Beckett was cheated because Beckett's been golden in the posteason and Sabathia's been suckstastic. But is that fair?

If postseason did factor in, A-Rod would have no chance at the MVP.
The awards are based on the regular season, because you have to allow for someone on a bad team having a magical season (see Steve Carlton in 1972), and that's the way it should be.
I find it interesting people always harp on how the MVP should go to a player whose team made the playoffs because "if he's so good, why didn't his team make the playoffs", but the same thinking doesn't apply to the Cy Young or Rookie of the Year awards.
My big complaint is pitchers getting votes for MVP. They already have their own MVP award. It's called the Cy Young Award.

Down 3-1???? But, but ... Boston is the Team Of Destinyâ„¢!

Who believes that some mystic force will magically well up inside the media-favored Red Sox and propel them to a seven-game series win?
