In Seattle, hatred for Alex Rodriguez still runs high, seven years after he left the Mariners for a $252 million payday. How else to explain the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's headline for the Yankees' opening loss to Cleveland (a vastly superior team in every regard, by the way)? "A-Rod Powerless in Loss" Yes, it was all A-Rod's fault that — by virtue of his .500 on-base percentage — the Yankees got pounded. (By the way, how could anybody watch Game 1 and not immediately see how horrible Derek Jeter is defensively? He missed two ground balls in the early going that any other shortstop would have routinely gobbled up. Sure, he can dive into stands and make flashy flip-plays, but he's got the side-to-side range of my dead grandmother, especially to his left.) |
