Joyner may fall far short of that 75 percent vote, but 30-something Angels fans may be unanimous in choosing him not only their favorite player, but favorite adolescent memory.

I think it literally means there are 30 or so people who remember him, but I think it was intended to mean people in their 30s.

I don't know; maybe I'm making a big deal over nothing.

No, you're right.

But mlb.com isn't strictly journalism, and shouldn't necessarily be held to the same standards. The writers are employees of the teams they cover, and while the front offices don't preview everything they write, it's made clear that they're not to write anything that would offend their employers.

If it had said "30-some," I'd agree. Not that I like that construction, either.

thirtysomething [CQ] was a primetime TV soap opera of sorts that led to this even more annoying construction: [numeral]-something

The show's title referred to the age of its main characters.
