Santana should be a shoo-in for the AL Cy, as he won the pitcher's triple crown. In the NL, no pitcher won more than 16 games. Roy Oswalt, the ERA leader, won only 15. My guess is that the Cy will go to Trevor Hoffman, the saves leader.

No argument with the AL.

Trevor Hoffman: Has there been a worse closer in big spots? If he makes it to the Hall, he will have to have one of the worst postseason records of any Hall of Famer. In 12 postseason innings, he is 2-3 with a 3.75 ERA; he has given up 11 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 13.

By contrast, Mariano Rivera is 17-7 with a 0.81 ERA in 111.7 innings. He has given up 69 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 87.

If Hoffman is inducted (Rivera's induction is a fait accompli), it just will emphasize the axiom that there are Hall of Famers, and there are HALL OF FAMERS.

Yes, Hoffman, the saves leader some of us (including me) wrote off last spring.

Can't argue against Santana. He held up for a winning team.
Was surprised by how well Wang did for the Yankees all season.

Update after Wordy's post: Isn't this the second year in a row the NL lacked a standout piticher?

Last year Chris Carpenter was 21-5 with a 2.83 ERA.
