This is a photo of Anibal Sanchez after he threw a no-hitter Wednesday night.

From Yahoo Sports site:

From Washington Post Web site:

I think it is highly suspect because the first photo implies he is on the ground.

The tight crop is definitely misleading.

It would be bad in a paper, where such crops occur to fit photos into tight spaces on deadline. But why crop it so tightly for a web site? It's right down to his fingernail, as if every possible pica/pixel/fraction of an inch must be saved. One of the advantages of posting news online instead of or in addition to on newsprint is to avoid that sort of problem. Am I missing something?

It's a far better photo, and not only as far as accuracy, in the fuller view.

I agree with Wayne that the fuller picture is a better picture, but I wouldn't go so far as to call the crop "unethical." It just doesn't strike me as hugely significant that the picture fails to show that he is being carried by his teammates as he points toward the sky. As an example of an unethical crop, I would offer the photos of the toppling of the statue of Saddam. The tight crops suggested the existence of a large crowd when the square was largely empty. That was propaganda. This is just a bad crop.

Yeah. Maybe "misleading" is a better word.

Another thing that struck me about it is how there is NOBODY in the stands. Poor Marlins...

I thought this was going to be Frankenfood-related.

Pixels don't grown on trees..... There are good reason for tight crops in sport. This wasn't the pic to do it on. Not a cmatter of ethics just a matter of poor execution, something that seems fairly common on the web.
