Clemens Agrees to Return to Astros

HOUSTON -- Roger Clemens has agreed to a $22 million contract to pitch for the Houston Astros for the rest of 2006.

This is misleading. Later on you find out that, because the contract is prorated, he will be paid $12.6 million (assuming he joins the team in late June).

Thanks, ADK, for giving me the opportunity to point out that with my generational cohort Clemens heading back to the mound -- and my left knee feeling a little better this week -- I'm still in the game, too.

You're doing a heckuva job, Brownie.

Hmmm, I wonder if I could tell my employer that I was considering retiring at the end of the year, then just sort of stop working and not say anything for a while, but let my bosses know that, while I'm not going to be working at the moment, I'm still not retired yet and might come back. In the meantime, I'll hold a few press conferences announcing that I might come back, but I'm not yet sure if I'll work for the company I just stopped working for, and I'm open to other offers. Then, after months of silence, I'll go back and join my original employer, but I'll wait about five months into the new year to start, and graciously accept 57 percent of my salary for working the rest of the year.

Naw, I guess not.

Well, I'm hoping that Julio Franco's older brother will be called up for a cup of coffee.

The Royals could field their 1985 lineup right now and be as competitive as their current squad.
