My ninth-grade science teacher, who was an amateur player, used the game to make points about physics.

He insisted the ball carried better in high humidity, which then ran against thinking within the game.

He also pointed out something that outfielders deal with without realizing: long flyballs gain altitude gradually but dropped nearly straight down.
