Some have questioned why replay might make sense in the postseason but not the regular season. ESPN's Rob Neyer points out a consideration about this point I hadn't previously thought of.

Sure, you'll see the umpire miss a call at first base every once in a while, but when they do miss them, it's almost always an exceptionally close play, and we know it's been missed only because we've got the benefit of slow-(or sometimes super-)slow motion. And then October arrives, umpires are missing "easy" calls at first base ... and why? Because with 40,000-plus screaming fans in the ballpark, sometimes they cannot hear the sound of the ball hitting the glove of the fielder at first base.
Don Denkinger wasn't incompetent, nor was Fred Brocklander. The usual method simply was not available to them, which left them alone with their experience and instincts, and sometimes those will fail all of us.
Makes sense to me.
