BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles placed outfielder Eli Marrero on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained right thumb and recalled David Newhan from Triple-A Ottawa. Newhan was optioned to Ottawa on July 7 after his second stint with the Orioles this season. He was batting a collective .198 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 41 games. Upon being sent to Ottawa for a second time, Newhan voiced his displeasure over the manner in which he was used in Baltimore. “For them to show this disloyalty to me, it’s depressing," he said. |

That's really rather surprising given what I've read about Newhan, who's the son of Ross (I believe is the first name) Newhan, a longtime San Diego-based sportswriter (and baseball writer). David grew up with a heavy dose of exposure to the game, and from what I read about him was very mature and humble for a rookie. One would have thought David would have realized how the game worked. One would have been wrong, apparently. |
