BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles placed outfielder Eli Marrero on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained right thumb and recalled David Newhan from Triple-A Ottawa.

Newhan was optioned to Ottawa on July 7 after his second stint with the Orioles this season. He was batting a collective .198 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 41 games.

Upon being sent to Ottawa for a second time, Newhan voiced his displeasure over the manner in which he was used in Baltimore.
“For them to show this disloyalty to me, it’s depressing," he said.

Here's wishing Mr. Newhan well in Japan next year.

That's really rather surprising given what I've read about Newhan, who's the son of Ross (I believe is the first name) Newhan, a longtime San Diego-based sportswriter (and baseball writer). David grew up with a heavy dose of exposure to the game, and from what I read about him was very mature and humble for a rookie. One would have thought David would have realized how the game worked. One would have been wrong, apparently.
