Quite a line for our pinstriped third baseman:

AB R H RBI
5 4 3 10

From the clips I saw of his postgame comments, he was pretty humble, if you can imagine that. He could well have gloated, though, given the way the New York media have roasted him for not putting up A-Rod-like offensive numbers since his arrival in the Bronx.

Yet it's nights like this that sort of remind fans who is playing third base because there have been far too many nights when A-Rod has either taken the collar or got his extra-base hits in garbage time.

He still can't pitch, but if A-Rod can have a few more nights even close to this one this year, especially in the postseason, the Yanks can be a lot more dangerous.

And, yes, I know Rodriguez had a great ALDS and first three games of the ALCS last year.

He homered in the first, third and fourth innings off the Angels' Bartolo Colón. The first shot drove in three runs, the second drove in two, and the third was a grand slam. Rodriguez later added a run-scoring single, and he said that as he stood on first base, he took a moment to savor what he had done. -- NYT

Hey, he hit for the RBI cycle. Too bad the last RBI was not a solo home run.

Whoops. I transposed the runs and hits in relating his line. Should have been three runs scored, four hits.

Thanks, ADK, for inadvertently pointing that out! I hadn't considered the RBI "cycle" either, but that must be pretty rare!
