I nominate the Boston Globe's Red Sox beat writer Gordon Edes' choice of the Twins as the American League champions.
The Twins? The same team that is pretty much in the playoffs only because of the split to three divisions? The same team that has been bounced from said playoffs the past few seasons in the first round and has returned in '05 essentially intact, seemingly poised for the same fate?
I don't see it happening. The Red Sox, Yankees and Angels are much better equipped to win the pennant. I would even throw the Rangers in that group if they had a little more pitching.
