Will Barry Bonds Retire Before Opening Day 2006?

WAGERWEB POSTS ODDS ON:

"WILL BARRY BONDS RETIRE BEFORE OPENING DAY 2006?"

(Zapote, Costa Rica, 28 March, 2005) - Another chapter in the Barry Bonds saga has been written: Bonds announced last week that, due to a second arthroscopy surgery on his knee, he would be absent for half and possibly the whole 2005 season. This immediately raised questions as to whether Bonds will call it quits and end his Hall of Fame career. When he announced his injury, Bonds also lashed out, blaming the media for being "out to get him," and repeatedly saying how tired he was. .

Bonds even went to the extent of saying that the media wanted him to "jump off the proverbial cliff" and that he had done so. What is most likely to keep Bonds from retiring? He is only 12 home runs away from breaking Babe Ruth's decades-old record. While some question whether Bonds will want to stay around to break Hank Aaron's all-time home run record, Wagerweb.com sources tell us that Bonds is much more concerned with Ruth's record and that, if he didn't have it in him to play two seasons after this one--what he would probably need to break the record--he might just call it quits before the 2006 season. That, of course, is contingent on Bonds being able to come back for at least 40 to 60 games in 2005.

"Bonds continues to be an enigma and loves to blame the media for all his problems," said Wagerweb.com CEO Dave Johnson. "Judging from his press conference, Bonds might be coming to the end of his rope and of his hopes for playing on to break the home run record and winning a world championship."
