Chicago Tribune's Steve Chapman: "We're at war in Iraq, at war in Afghanistan, threatened by Al Qaeda, mired in budget deficits, faced with gargantuan liabilities in Social Security and Medicare, struggling to sustain the fighting capacity of our military forces--and what does this [congressional] committee think warrants its urgent attention? Whether a handful of overpaid entertainers are taking forbidden pills to improve their performance."

*So why aren't you writing about Iraq, Steve?*

Actually, I expressed the same sentiment as Steve did in almost the same words to a friend of mine the other day. But to be fair to Steve, isn't his choice of topic sort of defined by the committee's decision to hold the hearing? Is he a sports columnist? Even more specific, is he a baseball columnist?

I guess you could say that--if you wanted to be fair. He's not a sports columnist. He's identified as a member of the editorial board.
