I figured the folks gathered around the hot stove in this corner of the room would appreciate a good milestone. I'll use my 1,000th Testy Copy Editors post -- and that stat goes back to the Dead Ball Era of '02, when a post meant something -- to follow up on our previous Randy thread. You may recall I questioned the wisdom of giving up Javier Vazquez for the 41-year-old Johnson. My hunch is that the Yankees, like a lifelong playboy, made one move too many and will start paying for their sins of excess (exemplified by Giambi) and hit the skids for a few years. This portent is from the Times today:

I'm not worried. The guy pitched well enough to win the Cy last year (though he didn't get it). He should still be good this year.

Indeed, until Johnson's not standing on the Yankee Stadium mound at 8:05 p.m. on April 3, I won't be concerned.
