Quiz Time: Years ago a co-worker declared that there are seven "nicknames" for a home run. I came up with homer, dinger, round-tripper, jack and 2-3 that don't come to mind right now. Anyways, the guy wouldn't tell me the others, though I suspect there are at least seven. Ideas?

Did he use that in Chicago too?

In his book "Fungoes, Floaters and Foul Balls: A Colorful Baseball Dictionary," current Baltimore Sun copy editor Patrick Ercolano provides 15 nicknames for a home run.Pat, a lifelong Baltimorean and now a Tribune Company employee, also defines a "Chicago": It's a shutout. My apologies. Never called it that in copy, but one of the sports writers was found of yelling out "It's a can of corn!" when someone would go yard.
