At my local cinema last night, I saw a '70s classic film featuring Jim Bouton. |

According to IMDB (Internet Movie Database), Bouton played Terry Lennox in 1973's "The Long Goodbye," directed by Robert Altman. |

Without Googling...I know Altman was an outfielder. George, that is.
I think he played for the Cubs and the Cardinals and may have been involved in one of the epic trades of the era. |

Before 1956 Season: Signed by the Chicago Cubs as an amateur free agent.
October 17, 1962: Traded by the Chicago Cubs with Don Cardwell and Moe Thacker to the St. Louis Cardinals for Larry Jackson, Lindy McDaniel, and Jimmie Schaffer.
November 4, 1963: Traded by the St. Louis Cardinals with Bill Wakefield to the New York Mets for Roger Craig.
January 15, 1965: Traded by the New York Mets to the Chicago Cubs for Billy Cowan. |

He could have confused the '62 Cubs-Cards trade with the Lou Brock fiasco.
Roger Craig, Larry Jackson and Don "No-Hit" Cardwell had their moments, but no, none of those trades looks like a blockbuster. |

Yeah, i must've been confused. Pride kept me from going to Google over it.
Which brings up the classic bad deal of the era...again, sans Google....Phillies get Bob Buhl and Larry Jackson in exchange for Ferguson Jenkins and Adolfo Phillips.
Boring factoid: I wore Jackson's number - 46 - when I played high school ball. |
