Any baseball team can get "buried" in the standings as easily in April or May as in August or September--just look at the Seattle Mariners, whose season is almost effectively over before Memorial Day.

It is not just hype when sportswriters talk about the Sox-Yankees rivalry being more intense this season. It really is at a new level. And I think that explains it.

Yesterday I saw an online site with the MLB standings. It's calculating who'd qualify for wildcard spots if May were late September.

Wait. As of May 25, both Chicago teams have identical WINNING records (25-18)?
Sorry, I'll shut up. Don't wanna jinx anything.
