WSJ's Knuckle Princess:

CHICO, Calif.—Ivan Ochoa, a former infielder with the San Francisco Giants and now lead-off hitter for the Tijuana Cimarrones, never faced a pitcher quite like Eri Yoshida before. For one thing, the former Japanese minor-leaguer is just 18 years old. For another, the pitcher is a she.

In his first at bat on Saturday, faced with an unpredictable knuckleball, Mr. Ochoa settled for a bunt—a light hit without swinging the bat, and typically a safe way to get on base. ...

So, in a story about a small, young, female professional pitcher we get a lousy definition of a bunt (on the sports page!)

And guess what's not explained: knuckleball.

I'm not saying it should be, but then why stop the second graf to define bunt?

"For another, the pitcher is a she -- a member of a gender typically smaller and less athletically adept than ordinary baseball players."

Yup -- just about every sentence of the story is, um, off base.
I started with the muffed bunt explanation just because of the recent post about first pitches.

Most bunts do NOT result in a hit. Most modern-day players do not find bunting to be easy.

But thanks for the nut graf about her being a woman.
