If he's injured, can we expect a twist on the (apocryphal?) classic -- "Mets to play with Putz out"?

The Mets made a trade involving a Putz.

And they got back a reliever from the Mariners.

Signed,

Mets fan who thinks Aaron Heilman is the worst pitcher to ever wear a Mets uniform.

Yes. Let's encourage the sports guys to play with people's names.

Sports guys in my "shop" certainly need no encouragement when it comes to that. It's pretty much a nightly event. And, better yet, some people's names actually rhyme with other words!

My brother back in Chicago was complaining the other day about how wearying it is to him, as a reader, to deal with Sports guys' "clever" wordplay on the backpage day in and day out.

Perhaps sports headlines using whimsical wordplay is a limited, rare coincidence.

I ranted about how tired I was of seeing and hearing sports reporters (and editors) making hay with "Lance in France," every year for several years only to be met with a bewildered response of "I have never heard or seen anyone using wordplay with Lance Armstrong and the Tour de France."

Simply a testy response by the few to rare instances. (RIGHT!)

I have already been asked twice by sports copy editors about the correct punctuation for "'Tis the Season." The first one was serious; I'm thinking the second wasn't. Either way, I'm about to strangle a kitten.

Umm, you may wanna rethink that sentence:

1.
Quote:
The North County Times fired an editor for altering an Associated Press story to read that a Los Angeles city councilman strangled a kitten at a news conference about his city's new pet sterilization law.

2. Killing kittens = Unprintable [usually] act.

I hope that *was* apocryphal.

(Nobody will ever accuse me of being a prude, but that one would not get past my desk.)
