Where would be a good place to get a cheap, recent(-ish) copy of the AP Style Book?
I was amused and distressed to see that it's not free like the Grauniad's :- http://www.guardian.co.uk/styleguide/0,5817,184913,00.html

Is mise,
Jason...

AP sells them here..
Aside: It's ridiculous that AP charges its "members" for stylebooks. Perhaps it also charges its employees, which would explain a lot.

Not at the Guardian website it doesn't...
Erm, yeah I've seen the AP site selling them. I was hoping for a cheap, old copy. It's almost useless to me in Europe, but I'd like to have a glance at it anyway.
J...

Try Amazon.com. They have a selection of used copies, many for under $10.
Unfortunately, I don't think these are the handy spiral-bound ones.

No, they provide a link to the Guardian style guide on the web. AP's not that useful over here due to Americanisations etc.
J...

The only hard copy I have goes back about 30 years, but I can't imagine it isn't mostly obsolete by now.
I bought an online subscription, since I need it for freelance work. It's been quite useful.
[ June 25, 2004: Message edited by: SusanV ]

You could also try www.half.com, an offshoot of eBay that tends to have very low prices on just about anything.
