NEW YORK - Bill Clinton says in his new autobiography that his wife looked as if he had punched her in the gut when he finally confessed to his affair with Monica Lewinsky, and he slept on the couch for at least two months after that. (AP)
***One wag noted that it's a shame there aren't any spare bedrooms in the White House.***

A lot of people in that situation will describe themselves as being "in the doghouse". Clinton should have thought of that if he couldn't find a bed in the White House:
"Mrs Clinton said in her own memoir, Living History, ... that at one point, Buddy the dog was the only member of the family willing to keep the president company."

The Lincoln Bedroom was booked until the end of his presidency, perhaps?

It must've looked like a scene out of "The Honeymooners" R-rated box set.

On "Face the Nation" this morning, Dan Rather told Bob Schieffer that he believes Clinton did, in fact, sleep on a couch outside the bedroom.
One imagines in the scene an old hound dawg curled up on the floor and a makeshift clothesline with Alfred E. Newman T-shirts and torn boxer shorts.
(On the same program, Leon Panetta mentioned Clinton's "ability to be able to focus.")

Dan Rather! OK. I'm sorry I was so skeptical.
