LUSAKA (Reuters) - A 50-year-old Zambian man has hanged himself after his wife found him having sex with a hen, police said Friday.
The woman caught him in the act when she rushed into their house to investigate a noise.
"He attempted to kill her but she managed to escape," a police spokesman said.
The man from the town of Chongwe, about 50 km (30 miles) east of Lusaka, killed himself after being admonished by other villagers.
The hen was slaughtered after the incident. ***Don't worry about the lack of detail. Lusaka is in the "developing world."***

The troubled San Diego Union-Tribune doesn't appear to have much company among U.S. newspapers in running this "story."
Too bad about this "Internet" thing.Also note that because it's about Third World folk, it's OK for Reuters to leave out names.

Why kill the hen? Well, it can't have been a good experience for the poor thing, and she was probably injured in the process. Call it euthanasia.

My grandfather used to tell me that during the Depression he worked for a while as a chicken plucker.I hope I was hearing him right.

That is depressing.
When I was at high school, I took an agriculture major (we were the only city campus with a farm). Once a month (until the health department told us to stop), we had to euthanase a whole bunch of the little darlings and strip them inside and out, so I suppose I was a chicken plucker, too.[ June 01, 2004: Message edited by: Lee ]
