From AP, via today's Philly Inquirer (emphasis added):
"A look at suspected al-Qaeda operatives sought by U.S. officials:
"Adnan G. El Shukrijumah: A Saudi native who used to live in South Florida. Nicknamed "Jafar the Pilot," Shukrijumah is believed to be a possible terror-cell leader or organizer similar to Mohamed Atta, a top planner of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and pilot of one of the hijacked jets. ..."
[snip]
"Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani: A Tanzanian who also goes by the names "Foopie," "Fupi" and "Ahmed the Tanzanian." He is under indictment in the United States for the embassy attacks."
***Finally, the FBI finds a way to grab the public's attention.***

No, that is referring to Atta.

Shukrijumah is believed to be a possible terror-cell leader or organizer similar to Mohamed Atta, a top planner of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and pilot of one of the hijacked jets. ..." (Comma inserted after "attacks")
That's the quick fix, anyway. (Good eye, Lee.)

Perhaps it's sufficient to identify Atta merely as one of the pilots of the hijacked jets.
[ May 27, 2004: Message edited by: ADKbrown ]

I disagree that it compounds the problem. While still an awful sentence, with the comma added at least it's accurate. That's often the nature of the quick fix. Time permitting, yes, a recast would be best.

Wait, hold up. Upon further review, quick fix too quick. Sentence fraught with perils. Atta pilot.
Head tired, go sleep.

Too many years of drawing pages. Don't trust me with the words any more, okay?

That's why I don't draw pages anymore.
