Scott M. Libin at Poynter has tips for supervisors who are forced to have unpleasant talks with employees, including:
Try not to schedule anything else terribly stressful for an hour or so after your difficult conversation. Decompress, whether it's over a cup of coffee or some copy-editing.

Scott really feels your stress:
It can occur on occasions ranging from the relatively minor, like disapproving a vacation request, to the most serious sanctions: suspension, demotion, termination. The dread that compassionate people feel when they know they're about to hurt someone else — even for a good reason — keeps them from doing careless, thoughtless harm.
***I'm not really sure wtf the article is supposed to accomplish.***
