INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Voters in this Los Angeles suburb are deciding whether new jobs outweighs the loss of other business and more traffic, as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. pushes a ballot measure to build a warehouse-sized store, while skirting zoning, traffic and environmental reviews.
***A good number of people might be voting based solely on whether they want a Wal-Mart nearby for "shopping purposes," not giving a care to economic issues. Also, how big is a warehouse?***

Inglewood voters headed to the polls today to decide whether to give the world's largest company, Wal-Mart, free reign to build a Supercenter in their city .... (Los Angeles Times)

YIKES! At least it didn't say free "rain." I guess that'd be better for business... think of all the umbrellas that'd be sold at Wal-Mart.

Voters in this Los Angeles suburb are deciding whether new jobs outweighs the loss of other business and more traffic...
Shouldn't it be "new jobs outweigh" or "the prospect of new jobs outweighs"?
Or, preferably, "the prospect of menial, nonunion, subsistence-level jobs for all outweighs the loss anything else one might name..."

But I'll grant you, the sentence still trips up the reader. Tacking on "the prospect of," as you suggested, takes care of that nicely.

Granted warehouse store isn't in the dictionary but I think usage has made it understandable.
that being said a Wal-Mart's super store doesn't qualify...Sam's Club or Costco are probably the best example of a ware-house store.

Maybe, but the story says the Wal-Mart would have been a "warehouse-sized store," which can mean nothing but the size of a warehouse.
