Dow Jones CEO Peter Kann received a 58% pay hike in 2003 while he was asking Wall Street Journal staffers to approve a belt-tightening contract. WSJ publisher Karen Elliott House, who is Kann's wife, saw a 32% pay increase in 2003. "It's just amazingly incongruous that they would put this in their own pockets when they're trying to take money out of employees' pockets," says WSJ staffer and union negotiator E.S. Browning.
