A Des Moines Register photographer was charged with misdemeanor assault after an incident Saturday night at the conclusion of the Class 4-A state girls' basketball championship game at Veterans Memorial Auditorium. A member of a cable television crew, Larry Mahaffey, suffered a cut on his lip when the Register's Alex Dorgan-Ross allegedly struck him in the face with a camera as photographers jostled to record the celebration that followed Ankeny's 55-41 win over Dowling Catholic.
