AP has cobbled together a story about the apparent growing number of people watching porn on DVD players in their cars while they drive. The information provided wouldn't even support an urban legend at this point.
(Link here.)
The jumping-off point is the arrest of a driver in Schenectady, N.Y., last month. Otherwise, we're subjected to the hallucinations of a suburban Chicago woman and her child, and a story by a city councilwoman in Flint, Mich., who heard another woman's story about cops pulling over a driver but letting him off with a warning.
AP gooses it by reporting that "more and more Americans are buying vehicles with DVD players" (OK ...) and by talking to an expert, the director of the law and technology program at the University of Dayton.

Well, the original arrest was real, of course, as reported in the Albany paper and then followed up in the inimitable New York Post. You'd think the guy would have at least pressed STOP when he was pulled over.
Somehow, JJ, I have a feeling this is going to show up on www.snopes.com , either for the original incident or for the alleged "explosion" of people watching porn while driving.
My son is a stereo technician, and he tells me lots of people are getting DVDs in their cars. His own car has one in the front and one in the back.
I sure wish my old man's station wagon had had one in the back. That would have been more fun than beating the shit out of my little brother all the way from Jersey to Florida. Well, maybe not.
