If I didn't know any better, I'd guess this was orchestrated by Jayson Blair. It certainly will bring his name back up -- and, possibly, merit mentions of his book.
A [Macon] Telegraph reporter was fired Friday after editors were notified of similarities between a story he wrote in October 2003 and one that previously appeared in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Friday was not the first time Abdullah left a newspaper under a cloud. He acknowledged Saturday having left the Fort Worth Star-Telegram after being accused of copying material from another publication.
Asked why he did it again at The Telegraph, Abdullah said: "I certainly would want to say that I knew better. It's something that we don't do in this business and feel good about."
[Executive Editor Sherrie] Marshall said she was aware of the reason Abdullah left the Star-Telegram, but that after lengthy discussions with a number of people, some of whom knew or worked with him, The Telegraph decided to offer him another opportunity.
"We talked about the mistakes, but we also saw the talent, the potential and the promise and decided to give him a second chance," she said.
***Shouldn't this be grounds for firing the EE as well?***

Everyone at her newspaper, and everyone in the business (except the plagiarists), will suffer for her harebrained decision.

"Also saw the talent." A talented journalist does not plagiarize. What a crock of shit. She should be fired just for saying that.

I've worked in a newsroom that would walk out until the EE was sacked.

So it seems the reporter saw all the other newspaper stories as his own personal wire service he could select from and use professionally, at will. What a guy. And his alma mater is what, I wonder?
