But I regularly visit my parents back in metropolitan Atlanta, the birthplace of Waffle House. Most of us who went to high school in the South have fond memories of late nights at the Awful Waffle.<p>Meanwhile, my younger brother, who recently moved from Georgia to Brooklyn, is obsessed with making his fortune by convincing Waffle House to let him open franchises in Manhattan. Following the recent NYC success of another Dixie-bred enterprise, Krispy Kreme, he thinks the South is ready to rise again.
