I admit it; I read the "Book Babes" Poynter column. Today's was with Joe Eszterhas, who wrote "Basic Instinct" and who worked as a journalist (in the 70s) before going into screenwriting. This is an excerpt. Any comments from those around in the 70s?<p>Q:How has daily journalism changed since you were part of it?

A:When I did print journalism, there was no such thing as ethics. ... Journalism has become more civilized, and I think that's good, to have ethics issues and ombudsmen in the newsroom.

Newsroom tales are still told of when he did print journalism in Cleveland. But that was a long time ago, and he has since rehabilitated himself and stopped smoking.

Eszterhas is full of shit. (If we say it three times, doesn't he have to go back to Hell?) He's also a hack. And the U.S. Supreme Court has branded him a <a href="http://www.slate.com/id/2096120/">liar.</a> (Not even Jayson Blair can say that!) But hey, he told the fawning Book Babes he helped end the Vietnam War, so it's all good, eh?

From the link NewsD provides:<p>*****The false light Eszterhas shed on Margaret Mae Cantrell can seem understandable; driven by a sympathetic desire to fully capture a human story that exceeds the sum of two-dimensional details.*****<p>
Whoever wrote this is even more full of shit than Ezsterhas is.
