Just curious whether the employers of the people who post here had Paar obits ready, with just details of death having to be plugged in before they ran? Or was he not "famous" enough to have merited a prewritten obit? (I would find that hard to believe.)
[ January 27, 2004: Message edited by: wordygurdy ]

At my previous gig there used to be a canned four-page special section ready to go in the event of Ronald Reagan's death. Here, I only know of one canned obit that's been used (and that was for Chandra Levy). In most cases, we're content to use what we find on the wires.

I have to admit, I'd not heard of him before. I'm 27, and until today I always thought Johnny Carson was the original host of the "Tonight" show. But then, no paper ever hired me for my pop culture knowledge.

PBS has run two Paar specials in recent years. They are worth checking out. I wouldn't expect every younger person to know of him, but you should know that neither Johnny Carson nor Jack Paar was the original host of the Tonight Show.
